“In June 2013, my alma mater asked me to come back and teach, and I jumped at the chance. My first semester, I taught 19 units; second semester, I taught 15. And then, Yolanda happened. My friends and I launched a Balik P&Aers crowdfunding campaign with The Spark Project called “Love 4 Iloilo”. We helped 986 families in four municipalities, and provided seaweed farming implements to a coastal barangay in San Dionisio, Iloilo. By March 2014, I took the job as Internal Audit Officer for a Microfinance Bank in Iloilo. It was a great gig. While I was no longer in the academe, I was still involved in running training and workshops, with specks of HR consulting on the side. The two years I spent back home did indeed give me insight as to my definition of a meaningful and satisfyng life. I knew I wanted to do training and consulting. So when Sir Third called to talk about the possibility of joining the Advisory Services team to try my hand at the Learning and Development practice, my heart skipped a beat. But what about Iloilo? What about home? To quote Pico Iyer, home ‘is not just the place where you happen to be born. It’s the place where you become yourself.’ I’m glad to be home.”
