P&Ause and the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) – De La Salle University – Manila Chapter successfully conducted Kids @ Heart at the Hospicio de San Jose in Ayala Bridge, Quiapo, Manila last July 30, 2016. More than 20 kids and teens aged 6 to 18 joined the activity and received simple treats from JPIA – DLSU and P&A volunteers, such as candy, cupcakes, coloring books, string bags, and coloring pencils donated by P&Ause.
30 volunteers from JPIA-DLSU and P&A Grant Thornton gathered to bring fun and entertainment to the kids through interactive storytelling, paper-folding activities, dancing, and games. The kids also enjoyed a hearty meal prepared by the cooks from Hospicio de San Jose.
Some of the volunteers fed kids on wheelchairs, who cannot feed themselves on their own due to their physical disabilities.
Hospicio de San Jose is a foster care institution that has been a home for orphans, special kids, and the elderly. The place currently hosts nearly 300 people of various ages and needs. Most of its residents are children and adults who had been abandoned or surrendered, usually out of poverty. Aside from providing its residents their basic needs, such as food, clothing, and shelter, Hospicio de San Jose made itself a place where the residents can call the place their home; a place where they have a family that they belong to and where they are accepted and cared for.
