National Internal Revenue Code of 1997 5th Edition
During my college days, I was asked to lead a tutorial class for my classmates, for students of another section, and for lower grade accountancy students. To be honest, being a teacher was far from my mind (much less being an auditor) when my advisers asked what profession I would like to pursue. Back then, I wanted to be a civil engineer.
As we are celebrating Philippine Independence this month, I can recall several kinds of freedom. For Filipinos, June 12 is a commemoration of our freedom from being ruled by another nation. Another type of freedom is for young upon reaching the legal age, at which point they can make their own choices. Freedom can also be viewed in the context of moving on from a failed relationship. For the taxpayers’ perspective, freedom would mean liberation from tax burden; and it is fitting to mention that, early this year, a law was passed to set free the taxpayers from the past tax deficiencies.
THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has issued Revenue Regulations (RR) No. 6-2019 to provide guidelines for processing estate tax amnesty applications.
More than a year has passed since I wrote the article “Words Matter.” Through that article, I shared how my kids would play a game where their powers are determined by the words they utter. My then eight-year-old daughter, with her significantly superior vocabulary compared to her much younger sibling, can say a lot more. She can summon fire to melt ice, make flowers bloom to signify a new beginning, and surround herself with a force field to protect her from the attacks of her sister. Her sister, who was only three at that time, can only summon “Ice”! This little one got annoyed so much, because her limited words hindered her from being able to compete with her sister.
“Rain, Rain, Go Away” is a nursery rhyme that children sing when they wish the rain to stop so they can go outside and play.
ON MAY 31, 2019, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) issued Revenue Memorandum Order (RMO) 28-2019, prescribing the policies on the registration requirements for foreign nationals as part of the joint guidelines signed by the BIR, Department of Labor and Employment (Dole), Department of Justice (DOJ) and Bureau of Immigration (BI) to strengthen efforts in monitoring foreign workers.
It has been a while since I last went out on a date with any of my daughters. My wife and I have committed to taking our kids out on dates, but circumstances have always hindered us from doing so consistently. A couple of weeks ago, I was finally out on a date with my second daughter, doing the things she likes to do, eating the food she wants to eat and, most importantly, neither allowing me nor the past choices of her older sister to influence her.
A few weeks ago, I attended the first anniversary celebration of the Ease of Doing Business Law (Republic Act No. 11032) at the Philippine International Convention Center. RA No. 11032 was signed on May 28, 2018 and became effective on June 17, 2018. Many stakeholders and government officials were present to witness this milestone, all curious how the law has improved government services since its effectivity. Anniversaries are always nostalgic, as they force us to look back and see what has been accomplished in the past year.
