City of San Fernando among top ‘model’ cities

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- This capital city continues to strive for excellence, reaping awards and recognitions along the way.

This, as the City of San Fernando was recognized as one of the Top Model Cities in the Philippines during the Manila Times “Philippine Model Cities” awards held Thursday, May 11 at the New World Manila Bay Hotel.

Out of 37 model cities, San Fernando received the “Business Friendly City” award for its initiatives on improving the ease of doing business here.

“San Fernando deserves this award for of its accountability, transparency, efficient quality management systems and free from red tape processes,” said P&A Grant Thornton Head of Tax Advisory and Compliance Division Eleanor Roque.

Expressing elation and gratitude, Mayor Edwin Santiago said he is grateful that once again, the city was recognized with the prestigious award which he attributed to the efforts and support of the people behind the City Government, especially Fernandinos.

Santiago said that such distinctions encourage everyone to participate in his administration’s missions and advocacies towards development.

“We have been a recipient of the Most Business Friendly Award by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry for six times, and now we are again recognized by a different award giving body. Rest assured that we will continue our best practices to better serve our constituents,” he said.

Meanwhile, other local government units that received special awards were Bacolod City, Batangas City, Davao City, General Santos City, Laoag City, Mandaluyong City, Naga City, Paranaque City, Quezon City, Sta. Rosa City, Tagaytay City and Zamboanga City.

The “Philippine Model Cities” awards, themed "Beyond the Most Livable Urban Centers," seeks to recognize cities that excel in different areas such as social service, livelihood and employment, among others. (JTD)
