Verification of tax refund claims for simple cases

THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) issued Revenue Memorandum Order (RMO) 48-2018, dated Oct. 24, allowing the use of a tax verification notice (TVN) instead of a letter of authority (LA) to check tax refund claims the BIR considers simple cases that will not require an in-depth audit or investigation.

The following cases are now covered by a TVN, regardless of amount, with the corresponding time frame beginning the submission of complete supporting documents, within which the BIR should verify claims:

*Under RMO 48-2018, the coverage has been expanded to include: tax refund claims of job order personnel; and tax refund claims arising from the erroneous or double payment of taxes, which previously required an LA that must be signed by the Commissioner of Internal Revenue.

With RMO 48-2018 simplifying the requirements, the BIR aims to fast-track the processing of taxpayer claims.
